Groups in the Portland Metro Area
If you live near a Dougy Center location in Portland, Oregon, you can join a Dougy Center support group by calling 503-775-5683.
Dougy Center's grief support groups are designed around age, and who died, and how they died. Parent/adult caregiver groups run at the same time as the children's support groups. Participants select the group that they feel best reflects their families' needs. All groups are provided at no charge to families.
Peer Grief Support

We offer both virtual and in-person groups.
Littles
Our support groups start for children as young as 3 who have had a parent, primary caregiver, or sibling die. We have Littles groups for 3 to 5 year-olds as well as 4 to 8 year-olds depending on the age range of children in your family. In addition, we have many grief resources for supporters of Littles. Kids
We offer peer support groups for children ages 6 to 12 who have had a parent, primary caregiver, or sibling die. In addition, we have many grief resources for supporters of kids. Find those by following the "Find Grief Resources" link below.
Middlers
We offer peer support groups for kids ages 11 to 14 (aka "Middlers") who have had a parent, caregiver, sibling, or close friend die. In addition, we have many grief resources for supporters of Middlers. Find those by following the "Find Grief Resources" link below.
Teens
We offer peer support groups for teens ages 13 to 18 who have had a parent, caregiver, sibling, or close friend die. In addition, we have many grief resources for supporters of teens. Find those by following the "Find Grief Resources" link below.
Young Adults
Dougy Center offers support groups for people ages 19 to 25 and 26 to 40 who are grieving the death of someone significant (parent, sibling, friend, partner, spouse, or other family member) in their lives. Esperanza
Esperanza, which translates to “hope” in Spanish, is as group for Spanish-speaking families who are grieving the death of a sibling, parent, or caregiver. These bilingual peer grief support groups are led by a Spanish-speaking staff member and the adult caregiver group is facilitated in Spanish. Tapestries
Tapestries is a culturally specific grief support group for families with children ages 6 to 12 who identify as Black and African American. In partnership with Sakura Counseling, Tapestries is supportive space where Black and African American families can share their experiences of grief and connect with others.
After a Death from Suicide
We offer peer support groups for children and teens who have had a parent, primary caregiver, or sibling die from suicide. In addition, we have many resources specific to support after a suicide death.
After a Violent Death
We offer peer support groups for children and teens who have had a parent, primary caregiver, or sibling die as a result of violence. In addition, we have many resources specific to support after a violent death.
After a Death from Substance Use
We offer peer support groups for children and teens who have had a parent, primary caregiver, or sibling die from substance use. In addition, we have many resources specific to support after a death from substance use.
After a Long-Term Illness
We offer peer support groups for children ages 6 to 12 who have had a parent, primary caregiver, or sibling die after a long-term illness. In addition, we have many resources specific to support after a death from illness.
Pathways
Our Pathways program offers support and resources when a family member is living with an advanced serious illness. We have groups for children, teens, adult caregivers, and adults with illness in the Portland metro area. In addition, we have many advanced serious illness resources for families.
