What is facilitator training?

Volunteer Facilitator Training will teach you how to facilitate a Dougy Center peer grief support group. You will develop self-awareness and explore your own grief and loss. We recommend that you have an established support system (personal and/or professional) before taking the training.

I applied but there aren’t training spots available. How do I get a spot?

We make decisions about training spots based on a number of factors including a) our group needs, b) potential volunteers’ availability (days/times/location), and c) the order in which applications come in. We also factor in how responsive applicants are to emails and phone calls.

What are the requirements to become a volunteer?

We ask volunteers to complete a 2-day training and a group observation. You will need to pass a criminal background check.

What is the time commitment to be a volunteer?

We ask volunteer facilitators to make a minimum commitment of one year. Groups meet for 3.5 hours every other week. Administrative and Event volunteers have more flexibility.
