Pathways offers peer support groups for children, teens, and their adults when a family member is living with an advanced serious illness, which is a disease that has been diagnosed as incurable. Pathways consists of a group for children, a group for teens, a group for adult caregivers, and a group for the adults diagnosed with an advanced serious illness. All groups meet at the same time so families can come together. Groups are ongoing and you can join any time.

The Pathways group is not available in a Spanish speaking format at this time. Program staff who speak Spanish are available for questions and there are resources available in Spanish for before and after a death here. Please contact Dougy Center at 503-775-5683 for more information.

In general, Dougy Center serves as an excellent secondary internship site for students enrolled in certain mental health/counseling/social work programs who are interested in grief and groups. A few things to note: we expect all interns to commit the same one year minimum requirement (often extending beyond the school year). Hours earned are 3.5 every other week and supervision is all in a group setting, there is no individual supervision available. Most students receive their individual supervision through their primary placement. All internship requests must be preapproved by Dougy Center staff. Pathways support groups meet for 1.5 hours in-person every other week. The groups take place at our Southeast Portland location. Dougy Center does not have a Pathways virtual group or meet at other locations at this time.
