DAF Day, a national giving day for Donor-Advised Funds, is October 8. Did you know that DAFs are the fastest-growing form of philanthropy in the country? We are truly grateful to everyone who recommends Dougy Center as the recipient of their fund.
If you’re interested in learning more about DAFs, here are some frequently asked questions about donor-advised funds and how you can support Dougy Center. Feel free to reach out to our Development team at development@dougy.org or call 971-666-7505 for questions. Please note that we cannot provide financial or tax advice, so we encourage you to consult your financial or tax advisor.
Q: What is a Donor-Advised Fund?
A: A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable investment account that allows an individual to make tax-deductible contribution of cash, securities, or other assets.
Q: What is DAF Day?
A: It’s a day dedicated to raising awareness and support through Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs). Supporters can make impactful gifts to Dougy Center from their DAF and make a direct impact in the lives of children and families who are grieving.
Q: Why give through my DAF?
A: It’s fast, tax-efficient, and lets you support the causes you care about—like Dougy Center—on your own timeline.
Q: How are Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) taxed?
A: Contributions you make into your DAF are generally tax-deductible in the year you give them (subject to IRS rules). Once in your DAF, the funds can grow tax-free, and you won’t owe taxes when you recommend grants to nonprofits like Dougy Center. However, because you receive the tax benefit up front, you don’t get another deduction when you make the grant from your DAF.
Q: How do I make a DAF gift to Dougy Center?
A: Just log in to your DAF provider, search for “Dougy Center,” and recommend a grant. You can also list our Tax ID (EIN): 93-0806407.
Q: Can I make my gift recurring?
A: Yes! Many DAF sponsors allow you to set up recurring grants, so your impact continues automatically.
Q: Will Dougy Center know the gift is from me?
A: Typically, yes—unless you choose to give anonymously through your DAF.
Q: Can I name Dougy Center as a beneficiary of my DAF?
A: Absolutely. You can designate a portion or all of your remaining DAF balance to Dougy Center as part of your legacy planning.
“Using my donor advised fund has made supporting Dougy Center both easier and more intentional. I love that I already have charitable funds set aside and ready to give. As a financial advisor, I often recommend them to clients as well, since they can make charitable giving not only simpler but also more tax advantageous.”
