Creating a Legacy of Hope

Every person wants to know they made a difference during their lifetime. At some point, we think about the future. How can we protect those we love while supporting the causes closest to our hearts? Sometimes our cash resources are limited and we wonder how we can create a meaningful legacy. Through The Chappell Society, it is possible to realize your gift planning goals and create a lasting gift of hope for grieving children and families.

The Chappell Society

The Chappell Society recognizes those who have remembered The Dougy Center in their future giving or estate plans. The Society was named in honor of our founder, Beverly Chappell, and her husband, Dr Allan Chappell (1923-1993), for their commitment to grieving children and families. The Chappells’ inspiration came from Dougy Turno, a young boy who had an inoperable brain tumor. Dougy’s wonderful spirit and deep compassion for others led the Chappells to start peer support groups for grieving families. In 1982 the first Dougy Center support group met in the Chappells’ living room.

I have never met a person whose greatest need was anything other than real, unconditional love. You can find it in a simple act of kindness toward someone who needs help.-Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
